I just cut up my store credit card. You know, the one with the five percent discount. It was an anxiety filled event. The secret is to repeat to yourself, "NewHouseNewHouseNewHouse" until you finish. Or you know. Whatever your big financial goal is.
Sigh.
Here is my budget for the rest of the month.
The numbers are the expense/remaining balance. This is after my paycheck on the 20th.
$1291--starting balance
147/1144--tithing
150/994--automatic deposit into emergency fund account
100/894--oil change & tires (I have no idea how much it costs to have your tires rotated but you know they always want you to fix something else too)
50/844--physical therapy (dr. mark peterson, he is the best)
50/794--fast offering
115/679--gas (for the car, sicko)
15/664--staff birthday lunch at work
25/639--dentist
25/614--other specialist doctor visit (wink wink)
75/539--Miller Analogies Test (wish me luck, it's for grad school)
24/515--prescription medication
400/115--extra funds back into emergency fund account (EFA)
50/65--groceries!
Well. I guess now we know where all of my money goes. Anyway, I think that's the general idea of the budget. I am going to pay cash (as in, real money, not use my debit card) for everything except tithing & fast, gas, and obviously depositing into the EFA.
I'm going to need to get some more envelopes.

Good for you!
This will help you think so differently about money. I feel sorry for all the people in debt.
Good luck! :)
